As they grow, some of these bones gradually fuse together, resulting in 206 bones in adults. This dynamic process creates a stronger and more stable skeletal structure suitable for the physical demands of adult life.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even after these fusions, our bones remain dynamic and versatile throughout life. They provide structural support, protect our internal organs, make movement possible, store essential minerals like calcium, produce blood cells in the marrow, and play a role in endocrine regulation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Several hormones in the body influence how bones are formed, maintained, and repaired. <\/span><b>Estrogen<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>testosterone<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> help maintain bone density, while <\/span><b>parathyroid hormone<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>calcitonin<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> regulate calcium levels in the body, affecting bone metabolism. <\/span><b>Cortisol<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, produced during stress, can decrease bone formation. It is also the relatively inactive form of the thyroid hormone and gets converted into T3 in your body tissues.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Triiodothyronine (T3):<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> While less abundantly produced, T3 is the more active form of the thyroid hormone and is responsible for most of the effects of the thyroid on your body\u2019s functions.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These hormones help regulate many essential bodily functions, including heart rate, body temperature, and body metabolism. They are also necessary for proper growth and development, especially in children and adolescents. This is a normal and healthy process that happens throughout your life, with each bone turnover cycle lasting about 150\u2013200 days. What\u2019s even more interesting is that you essentially get a new skeleton every 10 years due to this bone remodeling process.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because thyroid hormones play a role in this transformative process, a significant thyroid dysfunction is capable of having a negative impact on your bone health.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s how this happens:<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-755a380 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"755a380\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">1. This is likely to happen in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/2375563\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">overtreatment with levothyroxine<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, resulting in thyroid hormone levels that are higher than normal, causing hyperthyroidism-induced effects on your bones. <\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cf305b5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"cf305b5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">2.
